ESL Program Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago's English as a Second Language (ESL) Program offers a rigorous, intensive curriculum for people who are serious about learning English. Our ESL Program is ideal for non-native English speakers preparing for undergraduate or graduate academic work in the United States. Loyola's ESL classes meet the needs of individuals with at least an academic beginner level of English language skill. We offer a Fall and Spring semester of 15 weeks for students of all skill levels and multiple Summer sessions (two 4-week sessions and one 12-week session for Advanced students).

All ESL Program classes are currently being offered at our beautiful Lake Shore Campus along Lake Michigan on the north side of Chicago.

Loyola's ESL Program courses are designed to prepare students for academic success. Each class provides students with the skills needed to help non-native speakers achieve advanced English language development. Courses focus on:

    Reading
    Oral Communication
    Composition
    Pronunciation
    Grammar
    Lecture Preparation
    Business English
    TOEFL Preparation

Additionally, ESL Program students develop technological competencies in their courses and learn basic computer skills, create PowerPoint presentations, and navigate Blackboard, Loyola's online course management system.

Consistently ranked a top national university and best value by U.S. News & World Report, Loyola continues to advance the 450-year-old Jesuit tradition of rigorous academic study firmly grounded in the liberal arts. Loyola helps students prepare for meaningful careers with top academic programs in business, the sciences, and numerous other disciplines. Loyola also focuses on the development of the whole person - intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually.
