First, participate and succeed in any academic degree program
The mission of the Northern State University Intensive English Program (IEP) is to provide all students who do not speak English as their first language with a challenging English language program which prepares them to participate and succeed in any academic degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level in a U.S. university.

Second, familiarize students with American culture and cultural dynamics
The IEP is also designed to assist and familiarize students with American culture and the different cultural dynamics involved in both the classroom and out of the classroom.

The Area

ABERDEEN, South Dakota is a place of blue sky, clean air and wide open spaces. With a population of about 25,000, Aberdeen is the third largest city in the state. It combines the traditional Midwestern hospitality with the progressiveness of a metropoli-tan area to create a safe and friendly environment which fosters the pursuit of education.

Focus on the core language skills needed for academic success.
Business English
Focuses on key terms and content related to business, economics, and finance.
English & American Culture
Focuses on cultural aspects in the U.S. while at the same time teaching vocabulary and idioms that are unique to American English.
TOEFL Preparation
Focuses on preparing students to successfully pass the TOEFL exam.

Additional Services

Tutoring
In addition to classes, free group and individual tutoring will also be provided. You will be able to work with native English speakers to improve your skills.
ESL Labs
The ESL conversation, listening, and writing sessions are open to all international students and use the NSU computer labs and technology.
NSU Facilities

Friends From Afar
