The Language Institute of Virginia is an English1 language school for all who wish to learn. The school offers beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of instruction in reading and composition, speaking and listening, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, TOEFL and cross cultural counseling. It provides speakers of other languages an opportunity to develop their speaking, listening and reading skills in English so they may successfully adapt to America.

Through improvement of its students’ language skills and cultural awareness, the Language Institute of Virginia prepares all who study at the institution for interactions with Americans from all walks of life, and heightens awareness of social, business and academic opportunities available within the larger American community.

The costs for tuition and room and board are quite reasonable and the school provides caring, competent and experienced instructors (native speakers with a minimum of a Master’s in TESL or related field) in small classroom settings. The students have access to the school library, audio/computer lab, and culinary facilities for additional language learning opportunities. The social learning program also incorporates several immersive social learning activities, such as theatre, dance and sports.

In addition to English, LIV also offers courses in other languages and cultures.

Our instructors, many of whom are bilingual, have had overseas experience and understand your objectives and the challenges you face. We have programs, such as Conversation Partners, that provide you opportunities to develop friendships with Americans as you practice your English skills in a friendly, low-stress environment. Of course you also have opportunities to showcase your own countries and cultures through the International Club, and other annual events like teas, exhibitions, sports, and international dinner nights.
