Expats in Hong Kong - Discovering This Autonomous Chinese Region

With its improving economic state, Hong Kong attracts a great number of people who are in search for nice places to spend their retirement years. Even if this place has an inviting economy, there are some important factors that expats in Hong Kong should take a look at such as climate, government, and tax system. Additionally, they should also take into consideration the state of medical care, real estate, and shopping in this place. Above all, expats must not forget to assess the cost of living in the autonomous Chinese place.

Climate and Government

Even if Hong Kong is still a part of the People's Republic of China, this region features a local government that has control over the economic activities in the place. Aside from these, China does not have control over policies related to immigration and foreign affairs in Hong Kong. In this regard, those who plan to become one of the expats in Hong Kong should communicate with local agencies that are in-charge with immigration services. On the other hand, before spending some time in this place, they should know its climate. The winter season in this place starts at December and ends in February. Meanwhile, hot or summer season begins from June until September.

Tax System and Medical Care

Expats in Hong Kong are encouraged to put up some business since it has a flourishing economy. In addition, this place has low tax rates because its inflation rate is stable. People in this place can choose from two types of taxations system implemented in the area. They can choose whether they will follow fix 16 per cent taxation from their income or the adjusted taxation in which the taxes that people will pay are adjustable from two to 19 per cent. In terms of medical care, expats can visit numerous efficient and public hospitals in case of emergencies. If they do not have budget for their medical needs, these hospitals bill them at later dates.

Real Estate and Shopping

Many expats in Hong Kong experience difficulties in real estate since rentals in condominiums and apartments are more expensive than those in top U.S. cities. In addition, the apartments are not spacious as compared to apartments in San Francisco and New York City. Meanwhile, for those who visit this place to do some shopping, they can find a lot of fashionable items and accessories in Hong Kong. Moreover, there are numerous retail stores in the place that offers cheap clothes, bags, and footwear.

Cost of Living

Expats in Hong Kong should know that the cost of living in this place is super expensive. In this regard, they are encouraged to consider some of the businesses where they can invest to help them improve their money. With this information, those who plan to stay in Hong Kong for several years should have long-term plan in order for them to afford the cost of living in this place. Business people are also advised to first assess the status of their investments before they decide to migrate in Hong Kong.
