Visiting Singapore on a Budget

Compared to the surrounding area, visiting Singapore can seem quite expensive. The prices you'll find in Singapore are probably closer to what you'd expect to find in the United States, so visiting on a budget can take a bit of planning. However, you will find that that there are plenty of inexpensive things to do, places to see, and delicious food to eat, if you just know where to go.

Enjoy the Local Cuisine without Breaking Your Budget
You'll find plenty of great restaurants in Singapore, but if you want to eat great meals while sticking to a budget, try visiting Little India. You'll find plenty of authentic local food, all for great prices. It's also lots of fun, since in most cases you'll be eating the food with your hands, just like the locals do. You'll find plenty of great food at Tekka Center, all inexpensively priced. There are a variety of food stalls, so you can sample many different kinds of dishes, many of which cost $5 or less. As you travel around Little India, you'll find plenty Indian restaurants, but you'll also find restaurants with good Chinese food, including some Heng Hwa restaurants that serve great seafood. The Chinatown area is also a great place to get some delicious and yet inexpensive food. You can enjoy the food while having a great time taking in the sights while walking around. If you do want to try some of the more expensive Singapore restaurants, try eating lunch instead of dinner, since the prices will usually be around 20% cheaper.

Beautiful and Yet Inexpensive Sights to See
It's hard to beat "free," so don't miss walking through the Botanical Gardens. You'll love the natural surroundings and serene atmosphere. If you walk through the gardens during the early morning hours, you are likely to see local residents practicing tai chi on the lawns. If you are visiting on the weekend, check to see if there are any free concerts being offered. There is also a National Orchid Garden, which does charge a small $5 admission fee for adults, but the flowers are absolutely beautiful. There are also regularly scheduled events that take place at the Botanical Gardens. If you enjoy shopping, you'll want to visit the Mustafa Shopping Centre, which is located along Serangoon. You can enjoy shopping any time, day or night, since they are open 24 hours a day. You'll find plenty of great prices on all kinds of things, since they seem to carry almost everything.

Sights to Splurge On
If you want to visit the Singapore Zoo, be prepared for the fact that the prices may seem a bit expensive. However, you can combine ticket types to save money, such as getting a 3-in-1 ticket that will let you visit the zoo, the bird park, and take the Night Safari. The current price for this combined ticket is $45 for adults and $28 for a child, but you'll have a full day and evening's worth of fun for this price.
