Top Attractions in Singapore
By:Kum Martin

While Singapore is considered to be a commercial hub in Asia, it is also a great place to spend your vacation. The amazing architecture, the innumerous skyscrapers, delightful shopping places, great restaurants and serene places of worship are bound to keep attracting you to this island nation year after year.

Some of the top attractions of Singapore are as follows:

While the island is known for its modernity, it also has a lot to offer those who are looking to find out more about the history of the place. You can find out about the island's history by visiting the President's office. Then spend some time unwinding at the Telok Ayer Market where you can shop and eat to your heart's content. Finally, head to the famous Raffles Hotel to try out their Singapore Sling. It is here the world famous cocktail was concocted.

Just because Singapore is known for its multi-storied buildings, do not think that the place does not have its share of gardens and parks. You should visit the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve located on the peak of the tallest hill on the island. From here you will get a spectacular and breathtaking view of the entire city. Other gardens that you should not miss are the Garden of Romance and Chinese Garden. If you are looking for excitement, then head to the East Coast Park. This is located right next to Jurong Park and it is the largest garden on island offering an array of water sports. To see the tallest man-made waterfall in the world, head to Jurong Park. Here you can also see thousands of birds from all over the world living in a natural environment of rainforest. The Zoo of Singapore is home to a wide variety of animals, right from tigers to elephants to baboons and polar bears, orangutans, reptiles, and proboscis monkeys. You can also catch a glimpse of the rare white tigers that live here.

You can take a short cable car trip to Sentosa Island where you can see the marine world at the oceanarium by walking through tunnels built under the water. You will definitely not want to leave the place! The beauty of the marine world is too tempting and spellbinding.

Singapore is home to several different religions and each one has built its own place of worship. So, you can visit the famous Buddhist temple called the Temple of Thousand Lights to see a 15-meter tall Buddha idol, or you can visit Sri Mari Amman Temple, which is a Hindu temple. Alternatively, you can visit the largest mosque on the island called Sultan Mosque. Singapore is also home to an old church called the Church of St. Gregory, the Illuminator. Finish your tour of religious places by visiting the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple which house a 27-foot Buddha idol and also the tooth of Buddha Shakyamuni.

The best place to eat and get some superb bargains is the famous China Town of Singapore. Here you will also see a Hindu temple, which you can visit. If you are looking for high end shopping, then head to Orchard Street.
