How to Tour Cambodia & Laos
By:Nicole Schmoll

Cambodia and Laos are located southeast of Vietnam and just west of Myanmar and Thailand. Cambodia is home to miles of tropical rainforest and many rivers. The ruins of Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, are sites included on many travel itineraries to this country. The Laos capital of Vientiane shares a border with Thailand and includes many dining and shopping opportunities. Khong Island, Angkor temples and the Tadlo waterfall are just some of the natural wonders that attract visitors to Laos.

Decide what sites you want to see in Cambodia and Laos. Laos is home to much natural beauty like the Pakou caves, which are located about 40 miles from the city of Luang Prabang and can be reached by boat. These natural caves are filled with Buddha images and there are wild buffalo in the area. Siem Reap, Cambodia is the closest city to the Angkor Temples and includes massive artifacts and remnants from the Khmer Empire which ruled the region during the Angkorian Era. Determine if you want to plan your own trip or book a tour through a travel agency. While they cost more, tours relieve you of doing the planning yourself.

Make hotel accommodations. Affordable and upscale hotels are located in major Cambodian cities. Affordable hotels are also available in less-traveled cities like Battambang, Kompong Thom and Sihanoukville. In Laos, a range of hotels are located in Vientiane, Luang Prabang and even on Khong Island.

Purchase airfare. Laos airlines provides service throughout Laos and from surrounding countries like China, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. US Airways, Asiana Airlines and Thai Airways provide service to Laos from the United States. Cambodia is serviced internationally by Korean Air, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways. All of these airlines provide service to multiple cities within Cambodia. While no airlines fly directly to Cambodia from the United States, service is available through connecting international cities on Delta and Air France.
