Be an Advocate for your students
By:Dr. Yanni Zack
As an educator with over 25 years experience working with all different types of learners, and now being an advocate for people with physical and learning disabilities, I have found that we as teachers, no matter what level of students we teach, need to be an advocate on behalf of our students. By that, I mean we have to be proactive in meeting their educational needs and goals, and have to represent them when they have to deal with the educational bureaucracy that attempts to hinder their academic growth and success.
Being an advocate requires that we as the educators are both knowledgeable about what our students need and the strategies techniques and materials needed in order for them to be successful in their academic studies.
