ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Hi!
I am teaching all boys at a high school in Asia. I played the Boggle Game with the students last week; however, many of the teachers are upset and say that my teaching method is WRONG and that students who play games are only having FUN and are not LEARNING.
what do you do when the odds are stacked against you? I tried to explain that teaching English Coversation Classes are very different from teaching traditional classes. I went into detail but it did not seem to help. Now, I am frustrated and not motivated at all to make my next lesson plan.
Help! I need advice! Also, they have me reading from a small novel and then conducting question and answer sessions which is English Comprehension. The teacher explained to me that he had 20 years of teaching experience on me in teaching English (he can barely speak a sentence correctly) and that his job is English Compreshension; however, he has me doing English Comprehension in class.
I was told today by a teacher that my teaching method is wrong, he does not believe in game playing and that he wants me to take his suggestions to change my lesson plan if he thinks that the students are not learning. It is really about power.
There are several Co-teachers who assist me and they all want to tell me what to do and how to do it, but none of them can speak English or understand anything I am teaching. The students are doing wonderful...no problem there that I am aware of.
Help please!
