I don't just mean young learners. There are adult students in China who regularly participate in the white monkey shows

I think that the problem is, is that you (like me most of the time) are an oral English teachers working in a school/university; and you are surrounded by properly qualified teachers, the properly qualified Chinese teachers who teach many subjects between them. You have a classic inferiority complex. You are in the main hired to talk to the students- throw in a bit of basic grammar, and give the students some relief from their normal strict regime. What's wrong with that? You should do your best for the students and have a gay old time for the short time you're in China. It doesn't matter to me if they think I'm a white monkey as long as they cough up the goosegogs every month and I have a comfortable flat to invite the female teachers around for coffee and biscuits. Nothing wrong with a few games or this 'asher method' as long as it's not too often.
