I recently moved to Sydney from the USA and was wondering a few things about tutoring and english teaching qualifications. What types of qualifications or postgraduate studies do schools typically look for in the English department? Is one type of certification preferred over another (for instance a DipEd in TESOL vs. a Professional Certificate in CERTA). I am passionate about becoming an English teacher, but was thinking of getting certified in TESOL or CERTA first and getting some experience before I go for a Masters. I'm concerned about what certifications help you get hired. In the USA, teaching requirements are a bit more straight forward.
