The mission of Horizon Japan International School, as a multicultural and diverse learning community, is to provide students with a high quality international education and a lifelong passion for academic, social, and personal success in a safe, supportive, challenging, non-discriminatory and responsive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, and excellence.

Horizon is proud to serve the international community of Japan with three campuses in two major cities. Currently there are a preschool campus and an elementary campus in Yokohama, and a PreK-6 campus in Tokyo, Shibuya.

Our school was established in 2003 and we already have students representing over 20 nationalities. HJIS is strongly committed to developing an international and multi-cultural perspective among our students and parents. We are working with other schools around the world, and setting new standards of excellence to prepare our students to meet the challenges of the future.

HJIS's goal is to ensure that all students are actively involved in their education and learn in new and innovative ways. With classes that have a low student-to-teacher ratio, our teaching staff works closely with each student to fulfill their educational needs. The students have many opportunities to pursue interesting and challenging academic programs as well as a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.

Critical to the success of HJIS is the active involvement of all members of the school community in an open and responsive environment that places the child's interests at the core. The interaction of students, faculty and families creates an energetic and dynamic atmosphere. At our school, students greatly benefit from this family-like environment, improving their character development and community awareness.
