How to Do New_York on a Budget

Dubbed the city that never sleeps, New York is an amazing place to experience and certainly lives up to its nickname. Indeed, regardless of the time of year you visit - or whether it is day or night - it is always possible to find something exciting to do.

Attracting nearly 50 million tourists every year, the city is alive with those who are going about their daily routines, as well as a plethora of people taking the time for some sightseeing. Coupled with an array of globally renowned attractions, stunning architecture and a bustling street atmosphere, the result is enough to take your breath away.

From the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to Times Square and its world famous assortment of shopping opportunities, there is something to keep even the most ambitious of holidaymakers on their toes. In fact, with New York's range of things to do and sites to see, it is almost impossible to cover everything in one trip!

However, as with any major destination, it can be an expensive business paying to see all the attractions, in addition to your accommodation and meals out. Therefore, it can be worthwhile taking your time to find out about the free things you can do around the city; in reality, a bit of research will yield some interesting results.

For example, the city is home to over 28,000 areas of public-access parkland, as well as 14 miles of beaches. If you want to soak up some of the sights, as well as indulge in a spot of rest and relaxation, it is worth heading to some of New York's greener, or sandier, areas. Central Park is also an ideal location to explore and one where you will definitely come across some real New Yorkers locals, who use the 843 acres that is available to escape from the madness of the city. It's also a great place to pick up a hot dog or pretzel from one of the many street vendors.

A great way to see the city from a new angle, whilst also catching a glimpse of the New York Harbor and Statue of Liberty, is to step aboard the Staten Island Ferry. This free ride lasts for half an hour and runs around the clock. It is also worth taking the time to visit St John the Divine, which is the world's largest Gothic cathedral. As well as being a center for many musical performances, it also boasts a Peace Fountain and Biblical garden.

In addition to the attractions mentioned, there are many more that are free to enjoy; providing you perform some research before you visit.
