Moving to Louisiana - State Information
By:Leszek Kolakowski

Located in the Southern region of the United States of America, Louisiana is also known as The Pelican State. Some of the many Great Destinations you should definitely check out while you're in Louisiana are the French Quarter in the city of New Orleans, the famous Mardi Gras carnival in New Orleans, the National D-day Museum, and the Preservation Hall and Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.

Louisiana is the only state that is divided into parishes, instead of counties like all the other states. Its name was given by the French people who explored the region back in the early years of the 18th century. They named it after their king, Louis XIV. The state is also known as New France or the Pelican State.

The French and Spanish inheritance makes Louisiana unique. These two languages are also spoken on a large scale in the present day Louisiana. Part of Louisiana's incomes is based on tourism. The Katrina hurricane had a bad influence on the number of yearly visitors, but in the present everything seems to be normal. Katrina also had an influence on Louisiana's population, decreasing it right after the tragedy, but either the old residents moved back or new people decided to move to this state, because the number of population is the same as it was before the disaster.

The largest city in this state is New Orleans. This city has a significant contribution to the state's economy due to its large port and the transportation of goods.

Louisiana has large areas of wild, unspoilt nature, where human intervention is banned. This makes it a "Sportsman's Paradise" as it's often called, making it an excellent place for boating, hunting, camping, fishing etc. Another nickname given to Louisiana is "The Birthplace of Jazz"; this being the reason this state is home to a huge annual Jazz Festival, featuring live events and famous jazz musicians.
