South Dakota is a favorite tourist destination not only during the summer season but especially during winter. Some of the popular attractions here include the 1880 Cowboy Town, Porter Sculpture Park, Chief Crazy Horse Memorial, Hugh Glass Monument and the Dinosaur Park as well as the Presidents Park, Skull and Bones of Hero the Circus Elephant.

It will really amaze you with everything it has to offer from thrilling winter activities to summer escapades and historical sites. Here are some trivia and facts about South Dakota:

You will find here a very magnificent view of the mountains bearing the sculpted faces of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington on Mount Rushmore.

You will find fossil remains of former life which dates back for so over a hundred of decades ago in one of the deepest woods in the area.

In the year 1877, Jack McCall got tried and convicted for shooting to death Bill Hickok. Jack was hanged about 2 miles upward in Yankton and buried in one of the graves here.

It is where miners struck gold in 1875. After so many years, Deadwood has retained most of the old sites used for mining in honor of its history and the former miners who earned glory here.

NBC's Tom Brokaw finished secondary schooling in Yankton High and later on pursued tertiary schooling in one of the prime universities here.

In South Dakota, the tallest tower lies in Bowdle.

South Dakota's Potato Capital is Clark, which is also the home of the world renowned contest here involving potatoes and wrestling matches.

In the year 1803, Louisiana Territory was purchased from France by then US President Thomas Jefferson. It was a successful transaction that multiplied the US property by two.

South Dakota is also the main residences of the Nakota, Lakota and Dakota tribes. It collectively makes up the Sioux group.

Jewel Cave is a popular attraction here also. It is one of the largest caves throughout the world. Its passages extend to over 120 miles. Its name was derived from the calcite crystals glittering once illuminated inside the cave.

You will find here the Wind Cave where there are map-like trails that extend to a great length of 82 miles. It houses a rare display of boxwork formations not seen anywhere else in the world.

Also popular here is the Crazy Horse Mountain attraction which will be the largest sculpture in the world.
Badlands National Park has the richest epoch Oligocene fossil beds in the world which dates back to about 30 million years ago.

Woonsocket is a prized town of South Dakota where you will find many pristine lakes. In the middle of this town, you will find the beautiful Lake Prior.

Harney Peak is also another attraction seen in the east. It measures 7,242 above sea level, one of the highest pinnacles ever.

You will find here Sturgis, the home of the yearly Black Hills Classic Motorcycle Rally. Also worth seeing is the Black Elk. It has a total land area of 9,824 acres where wildlife is highly preserved and maintained. It is okay for public viewing and visiting.

Hot Springs' Mammoth site has the biggest concentration of the Woolly Columbian Mammoth's bones that was even discovered in its original context form.

In Estes and Jim Creeks, near the town of Nemo, the 1st commercial sale for timber on US Federal forested land was authorized.
