Fort Lauderdale has something of a reputation for its beaches. Its a good reputation though, as you will soon discover when you step onto the sand to stake out your spot for a days sunbathing.

But which beaches should you head for? Are some better than others?

Deerfield Beach is a good one to try for starters, particularly if you are on holiday with your family. It has lifeguards and plenty of safe practices in place making it a popular and safe spot for you to use and enjoy. It also has a pier which is commonly used for fishing, so if you fancy a break from soaking up the sun you also have this as an option.

Another good bet is Pompano Beach. Just six miles south of Deerfield Beach, this is a friendly area which enjoys a homely and welcoming feel. The beach is stunning there are more than three miles of it - but the town area itself also has plenty to offer. Make sure you pack up early enough to enable you to wander into town to explore. It has lots of restaurants offering fine dinners to round off the day too.

Of course, a day at the beach is as much about enjoying the sea as it is about reclining on the sand. As such you might want to opt for Lauderdale on the Sea if you like going into the water.

This is a real seaside location in every sense of the word. It is smaller than some of the other beaches on offer along the coast in this part of Florida, but dont neglect it for that reason. It gives you one of the best opportunities there are to try some snorkelling on the coral reef. It is located a mere hundred yards out to sea, so you dont have to get into very deep water to see it.

Finally make sure you head for Dania Beach at some point during your holiday in Fort Lauderdale. This is just south of the main part of Fort Lauderdale, and it offers the chance to secure a spot that wont put you shoulder to shoulder with other sunbathers. You can also visit the fishing pier, not to mention enjoy one of the best fish dinners youll ever have tasted!

Fort Lauderdales beaches offer a refreshing counterpoint to the high octane days out you can have at the many theme parks in the area. As such it is good to fit them in as they will provide you with the relaxing holiday you are after.

Simply choose the beach closest to your choice of the many available Fort Lauderdale hotels, and lie back to make the most of it.
