Discover Alaska Towns
By:David Dutton

Make Alaska your travel destination and visit the town of Bethel. Only 40 miles from the Bering Sea, Bethel retains their traditional Eskimo language and way of life. Their population is mainly Alaskan, with the presence of a tribe that is federally recognized residing in this area of Alaska - the Orutsararmuit Native Council.

The town of Bethel is in the middle of 20 million acres of land called the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. This is the largest wildlife refuge in the U.S. Every spring water birds numbering in the millions return to this area to nest. This is a sight to behold and there are other animals as well. The caribou, moose, black bear, brown bear, musk ox and wolves live here.

There are plenty of recreational activities in this area of the country. The sled dog races are an exciting aspect that you will want to see. The Kuskokwin-300 dog race is always a fun event. In addition, there are dance festivals and the Yukon-Kuskokwim State Fair. The Camai Dance Festival is held every year on the last weekend in March.

The Yugtarvik Regional Museum is a part of the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. For the serenity and leaving the daily stress of work behind, this is the area you will want to choose for a relaxing vacation. They have five bed and breakfasts, five hotels, restaurants and most of the conveniences you will need during your stay. I hope this article helped you.
