Chicago Maps of Union Station and Downtown Area: Three Unique Maps of the Chicago Loop
By:Charles Self <chasself@juno.com>

Chicago is an ideal tourist city. Arriving on Amtrak at Chicago Union Station or by any other means is a thrilling experience. Most people have never seen such an exciting combination of tall buildings, bustling crowds, clean streets and lakefront and riverfront beauty.

Fortunately, there are many maps to guide you once you reach Chicago that you can buy at local bookstores or order on-line in advance. Given the size of downtown Chicago (The Loop), you will want a map that will keep you well-oriented to your surroundings. Here are three unique Chicago Loop maps that will enhance your stay in Chicago:

MapEasys Guidemap to Chicago: The first thing you will notice about this map is its physical composition. It is a heavy-duty map that has been laminated. Thus, it is waterproof and tear-resistant. Unlike other maps, it has been hand-drawned. You are able to see representations of Chicagos actual buildings, attractions and physical features along the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) and Downtown and a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) map. Finally, it can serve as your guidebook. It includes useful facts on hotels and restaurants, as well as information regarding shops, museums, and attractions.

Chicago North/South Popout Map by Compass Maps: As the title indicates, places of interest, historic sites, shopping, parks, etc. pop off the page when unfolded. This can be important when you dont have much free time and you need to get around the Loop quickly. You will find a comprehensive index of sites, street placements and travel guide information. A CTA transit map is included. The map is easy to read and in color. Finally, it is small enough to fit into a pocket or purse so you dont have to look like a tourist!

City Walks: Chicago: 50 Adventures on Foot by Christina Henry de Tessan and Bart Wright: Unlike most maps, this is a deck of 50 6 inch by 4 inch cards that guide you on different walks in the city of Chicago. Each card explores an area such as Millennium Park, the Loop, the Magnificent Mile, and Navy Pier. One side of the card has a detailed map of the walk including streets, suggested stops, parks and CTA train stations. The cards other side leads you on the walk including the address of the suggested stop, what you should notice while at the stop and bus service at the tours beginning and end.

If you purchase all three of these maps, you will be ready for an enjoyable trip to Chicago!
