Francisco is the coolest destination on the west coast and the nation. The area sports over 300 hotels that offer tremendous discounts. Alcatraz Island or "The Rock," as it is known, is a retired federal prison that has housed the likes of Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Alvin "Creepy" Karpis from the "Ma Barker Gang." No man had ever successfully escaped from the prison. Many tried, but all failed to navigate the 1.5 miles of frigid water to get to the San Francisco shoreline. The Castro/Upper Market neighborhood is a beautifully vibrant and eclectic area known for it's quaint charm and numerous restaurants and shops. San Francisco, and it's proximity to everything, gives you a sense that all you need is within arm's reach. This has also made it a favorite spot for business travelers and vacationers alike. People who visit San Francisco consistently say it is the most fun and exciting vacation spot on earth, and that it is simply a pleasure to "move about the city and get around." This is because of access to transportation and the simplicity of the city's infrastructure, street design/architecture and its layout.
