Walt Disney World outside of Orlando, Florida, is one of the top vacation destinations in the United States. The words "cheap" and "Walt Disney World" don't often go together. Everything about Disney can be expensive, from the theme park tickets to the accommodations and even the food and the souvenirs. While your vacation may not quite become "cheap," there are ways to save money.

Pick your hotel carefully. The first thing that you'll need to decide is whether you'll be staying on Disney property or off. The rooms at the Disney resorts are more expensive than many of the bargain hotels, but there are extra benefits of staying onsite. If you're flying into Orlando, Disney will pick you up at the airport and drive you directly to your Disney hotel. Combined with free transportation all over the Disney property, you might not need to rent a car, saving that expense. Another thing to consider when planning your trip is that the hotels, on property and off, are quite a bit more expensive during the summer, spring break and the week between Christmas and New Year's. Traveling at a different time of year will help you save significantly on your hotel bill.

Take a timeshare tour. You'll see them all over the Orlando area; booths or small stores advertising discounted or even free theme park tickets. These are most likely for a timeshare pitch. You'll need to meet certain eligibility requirements before the tour in order to receive your tickets. A timeshare tour can be a great way to save money on tickets but know ahead of time what you're getting into. There's a high-pressure sales pitch by trained professionals, and what they're telling you will sound extremely enticing. A timeshare is legally considered a real estate purchase. If you're not interested in finding out more about it and if you give in easily, you may want to skip the tour and just pay for your tickets.
