How to See the Stars in Hollywood
By:Tracey Sandilands

Tourists come to Hollywood every day in the hope of seeing someone famous. The city's tourism industry is built around well-known places such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. But where do you go if you want to see a celebrity in street clothes or sweats, going about their business and without the usual entourage? There are places where they can be found, but you need to plan carefully to be successful.

Choose a few of your favorite celebrities to research, finding out where they like to go and what their habits are. Research their partners and friends, as often it will be easier to find out information about less famous people than about the stars themselves.

Find out where they live. This can be done by going to the Deeds Office and requesting public records on areas where you expect to find stars' homes, such as Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Look for large residential properties that are owned by corporations, and research who the principals of the corporations are, as they may be fronts for star-owned properties.

Research parks near the homes of those stars you are interested in. If you can find out if your favorite celebrity has a dog, then chances are good you will spot him visiting the nearest dog park.

Go hiking or running. Although many stars have gyms in their homes, they need fresh air and a run occasionally, and reports have been published that several local celebrities jog regularly in the Hollywood Hills, in areas from Runyon Canyon to Griffith Park.

Check out the right restaurants. Not the fancy restaurants where everyone claims the stars go, but the quieter, out of the way places like Patrick's Roadhouse on Entrada Drive in Santa Monica and Mr. Chow on Camden Drive in Beverly Hills. Nona's in West Hollywood gets the occasional visit from stars like Leonardo DiCaprio.

Go shopping. Rodeo Drive is gloriously expensive and, though you may not be able to buy much for yourself, browsing in Prada, Hugo Boss, Bulgari or Saks Fifth Avenue may offer many possible star sightings.

Go clubbing. The infamous Viper Room, where River Phoenix overdosed, is still a favorite of many local stars, especially late at night during the week when the paparazzi don't expect to find them there. Sky Bar at the Mondrian Hotel -- opened by Cindy Crawford's husband Randy Gerber -- is one of the new "in" places, and Trousdale Club in West Hollywood has hosted Lindsay Lohan, Josh Hartnett and Christina Aguilera.
