San Diego Tourist Attractions and Tourism

With its beaches, internationally recognized zoo and world cuisine, San Diego has many tourist attractions. From its vast coastline of beaches to the Spanish history seeped into its architecture, San Diego entices thousands of tourists each year.

History
San Diego's history began with Spanish settlers of the 16th century. They sailed from Baja California (today's Mexico) to Alta California (San Diego) in order to create a claim on the area from Russian settlers, and moved in during the spring of 1976.

Function
Naval Base San Diego is the largest in the U.S. Navy. The area was built in 1919 and provides support for operating bases and fleet repair.

San Diego has three major universities: University of California, San Diego, University of San Diego and San Diego State University.

Geography
According to City-Day, San Diego is just 20 miles from Mexico and features both the Pacific Ocean on the west and the Laguna Mountains on the east. Its elevation ranges from sea level to 1,591 feet above and has an average temperature of 55.4 degrees F in January, 72.2 degrees F in August with an annual average of 63.2 degrees F.

San Diego is recognized for Balboa Park, where the world-renowned San Diego Zoo is located, as well as SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego Wild Animal Park and Legoland California.

Fun Fact
While year-round activities keep tourists entertained, annual events such as Comic-Con, the San Diego/ Del Mar Fair and Street Scene Music Festival are also popular.
