Beach Activities in California
By:Veronica Romualdez

With an endless stretch of California beaches along the Pacific coast and over 100 beach cities, you're sure to find something to do in a beach in California. Aside from sunbathing, swimming and building sand castles, California beaches provide sports and recreational opportunities throughout the year. Pack your sunblock and get ready to soak in the sun with hours of beach activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Skating, Rollerblading, Biking & Skateboarding
The 22-mile boardwalk that runs parallel to Venice Beach in Los Angeles is a popular place for skating, biking and rollerblading. As you skate, bike or rollerblade you'll see the other things that make the beach popular such as bodybuilders in Muscle Beach and people playing handball, tennis and beach-volleyball.

On the ocean side of Chase Palm Park in Santa Barbara, you'll find a palm-lined bike and rollerblading trail and a skateboard park. You can enjoy skating for free and perform tricks on ledges, rails, hips, quarter pipes, banks, "taco" bowl and pyramid in the 14,600-square-foot concrete park.

Snorkeling & Scuba Diving
Underwater enthusiasts can see a wide variety of marine life and local fish when snorkeling or scuba diving in California beaches. You can go snorkeling in Catalina Island, La Jolla Cove and on the north side of Frenchy's Cove in Anacapa Island. Go scuba diving in a state beach including Leucadia State Beach, known to the locals as Beacon's Beach, and Schooner Gulch State Beach along the Mendocino Coast.
