Re: Stay away from ESCS Poland!!!! - ESL school review

I worked for a ESCS school in Limanowa Poland. It is an even smaller city than Tarnow and I had the time of my life.

The adminstrators are wonderful, you get ALL the support you need, they helped me with visa paperwork- they helped me with opening my own business, they were supportive when I needed time off and needed to go home early.

Regardless how old this post is I would like to clarify that your experience is what you make of it. If you dont want to work in a small village/town, then dont take a job in a small town. And men that get in fights at local bars are only looking for the fight.

Please, if you have any questions or concerns at working in a village in Poland contact me- I'm more than happy to really tell you what its like-- not hersay--- from first hand experience.

AND I'd like to clarify that ESCS is a great school to work for. Again, the staff, administrator and students are wonderful. Get off your high horse.

This review is not offensive and i only read the original message after seeing your post, so why even bother commenting on a three year old post??

Re: Stay away from ESCS Poland!!!! - ESL school review

Whereas I believe the posting in 2004 with the subject title to be a sincere recommendation with perhaps some validity, I find it as worded to be quite offensive, and I believe any self-respecting web administrator would remove it.

My ancestors immigrated to the United States from the Tarnov area. They were far from "red neck," racist, or of the ilk which the poster implies that all of the less fortunate Poles who live there today. I would think that one who proclaims to master English would have the sophistication and professionalism to find a thesaurus and use a more mature term. This posting seems to me to be equally "ethnicist" and narrow-minded as the poster implies all from Tarnov are racist.

I respect the right of anyone to warn others of the hazards of ESCS in any and all regions of the world, but this offensive posting does nothing to promote the English language, and in fact, foments the incorrect perception of arrogance which much of the world has toward English-speaking nations.

I should like to be notified when the offensive posting is edited (my preference) or removed (less preferable, but desireable).

Stay away from ESCS Poland!!!!

I've noticed that English School of Communication Skills (ESCS) is posting for teachers again in Southern Poland (Tarnov). As a former teacher there, please be advised to stay away. Both the school and the city of Tarnov will not be pleasant. Indeed, there are many good schools and cities in Poland, sadly this is not one of them. Please check out Daves ESL Web page in the job information journal. ESCS used to advertise there, but pulled it because of so many complaints by former teachers. Now, they are skulking around on this site. Reasons to stay away:

1) High teacher turnover (6 teachers in just over half a year)
2) Poor micro-managing by the DOS.
3) No teacher support
4) Will not sponsor a work visa, ergo you will be illegal!!!!!!!
5) Will not allow the teacher to add in new material and if caught not covering up to a predefined page in the book for a session, will be docked pay.
6) Lack of materials
7) Tornov is a red neck small city with no neck guys looking for a fight. One teacher was mugged and put in hospital for weeks when he got paid.
8) Murders at the main night club(imagine Alabama in America with Chicago thugs)
9) Foreigners are absolutely hatedAnd dont be anything other than WHITE!!!
10) Many other great cities in Poland so why bother

Just some advice. And if you absolutely must take a teaching job sight unseen, then choose Krakov, as it has more choices of schools and the city has a very nice huge university; ergo, Polish people there tend to be a how should I put it a bit more liberal and open minded.

Good luck

Cheers
