I would expect foreign teachers should ask, "what can we give?" before expecting to be given something. That was my ideal several decades ago. The business "culture" in China has turned me into someone asking today: "What have they taken from me, and what did I get in return? Do they still owe me something?"

It's simply business, nothing else.

My position is somewhat different than yours. It sounds like you came to China with a lot more to offer than I did. You are an academic and I am not, so the 'simply business, nothing else' is okay with me.
