I completed my 1-year contract at this school. Everything was fine until my final day and payout time when money was withheld because i 'had cost him too much and a child had broken his tooth'. I was released 2 weeks early because Summer School classes were finished. However I was later told I could get my money if I worked the next 2 weeks, nothing to do with the broken tooth, but he had no classes anyway and I already held the Letter of Release. Also, my boss had moved INTO my accommodation 6 weeks before the end of my contract 'because it was his apartment' and various family members would come into my accommodation at any time without my knowledge. This was totally unacceptable to me but I was refused alternate accommodation. My accommodation was also one and a quarter hours away from my school and there was only 1 very crowded bus home at night. Because of this distance, travel home during the lunch and dinner breaks was impossible and initially I was given the store room to 'rest' in. However even this was allocated to a teacher without any communication to me - eventually I was given the principal's office for rest periods. Stick to your contract - as other commitments will try to be introduced. Do NOT allow visa expenses to be put on your personal credit card... I did and it took 3 months and many requests to be reimbursed. Lack of communication was a big problem to me but Zhoushan was a beautiful place where I made many good friends.
