Sure, an apartment might not be like you’ll get back home, but there are minimum standards that one can expect. As I said, living conditions can have a great effect upon one’s performance.

There’s being adaptable and then there’s bending over and getting raped. I have lived in many different types of accommodation in China from 5 star serviced apartments to sharing a rather shitty small place with a few local guys.

I can adapt to a fair few different types of accommodation, but I know what I was satisfied with and what I wasn’t. I have self-esteem and minimum standards. Every time I go for a uni job, I demand to see the accommodation first. If it is a TC job, I rent it by myself. If the accommodation/stipend isn’t good enough, I walk. There are plenty of other teachers that are stupid enough to accept it, but I do not need to be that teacher.

As for those spelling mistakes, they weren’t typos I think. We all use phones and computers enough these days to know what is a typo and what is, shall we say ‘special needs?’
