Choose: be a Winner or a Whiner?
By:Kingson Suryaatmaja

Nowdays, many people whine about many things in their lives. And usually, they are also good blamers and complainers as well. They point their fingers at the economy, the government, their boss, other employers, their spouse, and anyone else they encounter.

Even when things appear to be going well, they believe that it probably won't last. And while they wait for things to go wrong, they whine and complain about all the things that happened yesterday, emphatically pointing out who was to blame for it all.

In fact, blaming and whining is another form of psychological defense mechanism to run away from our problems and escape from our responsibility upon our own lives. Whining, blaming and complaining is simply another way to say, “It is not my fault!”. It makes us feel good by making ourselves the victim.

But the sad news is, blaming, whining and complaining won’t take us anywhere. It only creates a bigger distance to the solution of our problems. Those who blame others for their problems in life always have excuses to change and improve their life. The fact is that, excuses are not solutions. As long as we are focused on excuses, we will never get to the solutions.

Life is simply a matter of choice. We get what we choose. Our life today is the direct result of the choice we made yesterday. And so will our life in the future. Now, lets decide, what we will choose:

Face the fact, change ourselves and improve our life
Or
Waste our time blaming, whining and complaining about everything

In a simple word, what will we choose: to be a winner or a whiner?

I believe that obviously all of us will choose the first one, although sometimes it is not that easy to do so. But still, we have to decide for ourselves the outcome we want to achieve in our life. We have to choose, whether we shoud be the victor or the victim, a winner or a whiner, a champion or a chump. Once we have made the decision, changes will gradually happen in our lives.

Now, let us make a promise to ourselves. Whenever we find ourselves whining, blaming and complaining, remember to yell loudly to ourselves, “STOP!!” Take a deep breath for a while, analyze the situation, and point out what alternative solution do we have, make a decision, and move forward.

Remember, success doesn’t come to you. You got to go for it! I want to end this edition with this wonderful quote:

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be Achieved!” ~ William Jennings Bryan
