Making a Difference Daily
By:Jesse Walton

You can all make a difference on daily basis. Sure, everyone is busy, but you should never be too busy to say hello or to offer a helping hand. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture, its usually the simplest acts that make the biggest difference. As you go about your daily activities, there are many things you can do that would make someone's day. Here are a few things that are simple and would be beneficial to all parties.

1. Acknowledge everyone that comes within close proximity of you by smiling and greeting them. For such a simple gesture, its amazing how few people do it consistently. The perfect place to do this is in the elevator. If you've noticed, the majority of people that get on elevators do not acknowledge the person standing right next to them. Everyone tries to pretend that they are there all alone. Do you think that it would make a difference if someone said "hello" or "have a good day"? It may be the one thing that person needed to get through their day.

2. Compliment someone that provides you good service. The waitress/waiter at the restaurant, the cashier at the grocery store, the mechanic at auto repair shop, and list goes on. Many surveys have indicated that one of the biggest complaints from employees is, they don't feel appreciated. Appreciate those who provide you the best service and watch their faces light up and pride swell up within them.

3. Assist an elderly person across the street. Everyone is in such a hurry these days, this simple act has gone by the wayside. A lot of people literally run over the elderly because they have to get to where they're going. Slow down, take a look, and assist that person that may require your assistance. Most likely, it would make a difference to them and you would feel better as well.

These are just a few things that if done consistently, practiced at home and at work, would not only make a difference with those on the receiving end, but also make a difference in you. It would also make the world a much better place, and that should be the goal for everyone.
