How to Be a Good Friend
By:Nabihah Zaid

A good friend, who wouldn't want one? Ever felt like your just not good enough but don't know where to improve? Well, you've come to the right place. I used to annoy a lot of my friends before, just for the sake of having fun and from that, I've learned how to be a good friend, and stay as a good friend.

Listen.

No one likes being interrupted when they're talking, so, when someone talks, keep yourself quiet and listen to them, especially if they're feeling down, you need to be the shoulder for them to cry on. If you have any comment to make, be sure that you word it in a way where you don't sound too negative, otherwise, they may just take it as you trying to put them down. When you just don't share the same interest or you're not in the mood to listen to them, politely let them know and ask them to understand.

Always smile.

Everyone has their bad days, it's unavoidable. The least you can do is, whenever you see your friends, smile and say hello. That way, if they had a bad day, you can make them feel better with your smile along with your ear, and maybe, you can share something funny to cheer them up.

Don't ever lie.

Everyone would hate being lied to, especially if it's by your own friend, so don't lie! It might seem alright to lie occasionally, but once you lose your friend's trust, you may lose them forever, and that is something you surely do not want to happen.

Be the sensible one.

You cannot be too serious nor can you be too funny if you want to be a good friend. If you were too serious, people can never joke with you and if you take everything as a joke, your friend can never have a serious talk with you. Instead of being a friend, you'll only be seen as a joker. Be the one that can take jokes and can be serious if need be, and your friends would be open to talk to you about anything. If they had a problem, they can always look to you for valuable advises, and if they needed a laugh, they'll know you can make them laugh.

Defend them.

When someone trash talks to your friend, you cannot just hear it and act as if nothings happened. Calmly defend them. If you go screaming and act like Hulk, you're just going to get yourself and your friend in trouble. Solve the problem peacefully and don't try to act tough, acting tough will only get you more enemies. Sure your friend may stick with you, but who would want ten other people always going after them because of a friend?

Keep secrets

Make sure you can keep a secret, if not, tell your friends straight away you cannot help yourself when it comes to secrets. Otherwise, when you let them tell you about their secrets and you 'accidentally' share it with someone else, you'll have your friends hating you for the rest of your life and they'll probably call you 'big mouth' for your inability to keep secrets to yourself. Secrets are not meant to be shared, so don't even try.
