By:Leanne

The Walt Disney Company is known for telling stories that capture our imagination and entertain. From Snow White, to Cinderella, we all love a fairytale to escape reality occasionally. Interestingly, most of their fairytales are based on existing works and stories.

Cinderella

Walt Disney's animated feature film, Cinderella, premiered in 1937. The Cinderella story has been told in many works throughout history with early versions authored by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. The Walt Disney story of Cinderella is most closely like that of Charles Perrault's fairytale, who published many works that are in modern works of art today that include 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'Puss in Boots'.

Sleeping Beauty

The Walt Disney story of Sleeping Beauty premiered in 1959. Like Cinderella, the story of Sleeping Beauty is based on the original works of Charles Perrault.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Walt Disney's story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was it's first animated feature film to be released to theatres that premiered in 1937. The story is originally based on the tale by the Brothers Grimm. The Brothers Grimm consisted on Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm and authored many popular fairytales in modern literature and art today. Some of their works included, 'Rapunzel', 'Hansel and Gretel', 'Rumpelstiltskin' and 'The Frog Prince'.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast was a succesfull release for Walt Disney, which premiered in 1991. The story of Beauty and the Beast is based on the works of Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.

The Little Mermaid

These traditional stories are a part of history and through their reproducion and adaptions by Walt Disney, they enable children to experience these traditional stories in a new and modern medium of animation.
