Fun Facts about Dinosaurs Kids
By:Leanne

Not every child desires to be a palaeontologist or has a passion for fossils, but almost every child becomes interested in dinosaurs at some point.

Dinosaurs are an interesting part of the planet's history and even though we don't fully understand them, many kids are often taken by the mystery that surrounds dinosaurs.

Fossils have given us insight into their size and shape, but we still have many unanswered questions about what they were like.

Some interesting information about dinosaurs:

- Dinosaurs inhabited the earth from within the late Triassic period (that is approximately 230 million years ago) right up until the end of the Cretaceous period (that is approximately 65 million years ago).

- The mass extinction of most of the dinosaurs occurred in the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event.

- Palaeontologists have identified that there are over 500 different species of dinosaurs.

- Dinosaurs lived and evolved for over 185 million years until they become extinct.

- There were some herbivorous dinosaurs and others were carnivorous.

- Most groups of dinosaurs are known to have built nests and laid eggs.

- Dinosaur remains have been discovered on every continent of the earth, also including Antarctica.

- The largest identified dinosaur is a Giraffatitan brancai, which was discovered in Tanzania and is 12 metres tall and 22.5 metres in length and would have weighed between 30,000 and 60,000 kilograms.

- The smallest identified dinosaur is a Anchiornis, which has a length under 35 centimetres with an estimated weight of 110 grams.
