Easy Art Supplies to Make For Youngsters
By:Autumn Lockwood

Just about all children enjoy creating artwork, especially if they get the opportunity to display it in picture frames around the home. One problem can be that the passion for art is usually a bit costly, particularly when it comes to supplying your youngster with art materials. Fortunately, it's possible to make many of your own personal art supplies, which will save a lot of money. Here are some great supplies you may make for your own child, for very little expense or effort.

Handmade Glue

Despite the fact that glue is not a very costly art material, sometimes you might just run out. To make homemade glue, you simply need equal amounts of flour and water. Mix together within a bowl, and pour inside a jar that has a tight fitting lid. If you want to make your glue a little bit more fun, add a drop of food coloring to the mix. Your youngster can put on the glue using a clean wooden stick or a small brush.

Finger Paints

Finger painting can be a craft project that even the littlest child can handle. For an added bonus, just about everything you are able to create with finger paints seems to look fantastic when displayed in wood picture frames. The recipe for finger paints is very easy, as all you need to do is put into a saucepan one fourth of a cup of cornstarch and 2 cups of cold water. Heat it till it boils, when it will get to the finger paint consistency. Remove from heat and let cool. Divide into several small containers with tight fitting lids. Now have some fun mixing food coloring into all the jars, to make some different colors.

Fun and Fruity Play Dough

This fun recipe produces a nice sized batch of play dough that smells like fruit. Mix two cups of flour with a package of unsweetened Kool-Aid mix and a half a cup of salt. Next add two tablespoons of vegetable oil. You now will add two cups of boiling water, and mix it all up. If your youngster helps you, be extra careful with this step. Mix using a spoon, forming the dough. Make sure to store this play dough in a container that's air tight. Because this dough smells so delicious, remind your little one that they should not eat it. Once your child has produced something that they particularly like, be sure that you remember and take a photograph of it. Then, placed into picture frames and display as wall art. When this play dough is saved in airtight containers it's going to last for a long time and will be used in many wonderful creations.

Easy Handmade Chalk

It's surprisingly simple to create your own colorful chalk. Mix a cup of Plaster of Paris along with a little bit of powered tempera paint. Add to the mix a half of a cup of cold water and blend it up. Pour mixture into popsicle molds, candy molds, a waxed paper lined toilet tissue tube, or even a small Dixie cup. As soon as the chalk dries, remove from your mold. This chalk can be used to design some paper artwork, which can then be displayed in picture frames. Or, use chunky bits of chalk to draw on the sidewalk or driveway.

Now that you know how easy it can be to make your own homemade art supplies, ask your favorite child to help you and give it a go. You will be really happy that you did.
