A Collection of Poems About Our Sea
By:Mark W. Medley

A Winter's Sea

What doth the winter do to the beauty of the sea
The waves that once we sailed on, are frozen for all to see

The stars still shine, but in a cold and desolate land
A land once of sunshine, of brightness and of breathtaking joy

Woe the watchman who huddles in this icy land
Woe the sailor who ventures out in the chilly night

A huddling watchman, dreams of winters end, as
The sailor dreams of summers now lost

The chill of the night welcomes all at sea
The icy wasteland of a sea once so wistful

Till the death of this winter, the watchman curses the sea
and awakens in summer, to a glorious ocean so wild.

If

If we cruised upon the waves, what shalt our destination be
If we swam into the waters, what shalt we cry
If we dream upon a deck, what shalt we see
If we made love upon the waves, what shalt we feel
If we listen to the waves, what shalt they say
If we turn this into notes, what shalt the song be.

No Land for Heroes

At battles end, I dream of returning to thee
My eyes stared upon an accursed land,
and I thought about thee.

Then the drum roll stopped, as we leapt
Into the boats and the sea
Gentle winds blow our return
A return to my love of thee.

I yearned for thee, as my return from
The lands of the fallen, were tossed at sea
And thy love for thee was forgotten
As the sailors sang, this is no land
for heroes.
