By:Todd Burton

Denim
Denim is a specific cotton fabric that has been an important part of American culture. While usually blue, it can also come in various colors when dyed. While usually white or black, it can be dyed into nearly any color.

History of Denim
According to Lynn Downey, denim was created in the late 18th century. In the late 1800s, it began to become more of a part of general clothing.

Denim Jackets
Denim jackets were originally created for the workplace; they were a part of the overall denim outfit that was rugged and durable, helping to keep parts of the body safe.

Popularity in Fashion
Denim jackets became a serious part of fashion thanks to companies like Levi Strauss. The company began seeing success with denim jackets in the early 1900's. Since then, major fashion companies such as Gucci and Givenchy have embraced and used the denim jacket, according to The Guardian.

Current Trends
Denim jackets continue to be an important part of fashion; everyone from Abercrombie and Fitch to Banana Republic and Express feature a denim jacket. Companies use multiple colors to create different styles, while using different levels of distress to create various looks.
