By:Alice McClean

So you would love to take up walking but don't know where to begin. Follow my Top Three simple tips to get you started. Walking is an excellent exercise that has lots of benefits for our health. Take the next couple of minutes to finish reading this article and let your walking adventure begin.

Top 3 Tips for Walking Beginners

1. Set a daily walking routine

The best way to get started is simply to make walking a part of your daily life routine. Start to walk places instead of taking the car or bus.

Walk up the stairs instead of using the lift. Take the dog for a daily walk or walk your friend's dog. Find a reason that motivates you to get out walking. You need to consciously make the effort to find ways to include walking in your daily lifestyle. Start slowly and your goal should be to walk 30 minutes each day. Involve your family in your walking quest and make it a fun time that you all look forward to.

2. Start with local easy walks

You don't have to hike up mountains with lots of expensive gear to become a walker although mountain walking could be your long-term goal.

Start out walking easy routes that are local and convenient for you. Many of our towns and villages have beautiful parks and riverside walks or woodlands that are popular with the locals. These are great places to walk as a beginner. They are usually well kept and way-marked and easy to access and you don't need any special gear other than comfortable shoes or trainers. Local easy walks will build up your strength and fitness and give you the confidence to progress to a more challenging walking routine.

3. Walk with Others

Many Walking Clubs, Health Authorities and local councils run monthly or annual events to promote a healthy lifestyle. These can be spring, summer or winter walks for all abilities and most are free of charge and open to all.

They are brilliant fun, walking in pleasant surrounding with other like-minded people, with many opportunities for relaxation and social contact.

Using an organised walk is a great way of walking a new route with experienced walkers without the stress of doing it on your own. You can then repeat the route on your own in confidence having already walked it. Many walkers use this method to build up there experience. Details of such walking events can be found by browsing the internet to find a club or local council that's close to your location.

Walking is a simple exercise that can greatly benefit your health and by so doing add years to your life. Follow my top 3 tips and get started now to enjoy a healthier lifestyle outdoors and make walking more fun.
