What Does Tap Water Contain? What You Need to Know
By:Lisa Gibb

Whenever the question "What does tap water contain" is raised, there is a real dilemma for the person who raised the question in that do they want to assume the luxury of ignorance and forego the potentially grisly explanation of what tap water contains, or would they rather learn more about the materials present in tap water, as harrowing as it maybe?

If you are feeling brave then, dear reader then please read on!

Whilst there is a frightfully large number and range of different contaminants and toxins present in tap water, for the sake of clarity, it is crucial that we draw a very clear distinction between "living" contaminants and "non-living" contaminants.

Living (also sometimes known as organic) contaminants are things such as bacteria and fungus present within the water and which are now very rare due to the high (some would say too high) presence of various chemical cleaning agents.

Before chlorine became an industry standard solution to help purify water, diseases that were incubated and transported via water were rife and whilst they have been pretty much eradicated here in the Western world, they are still a force to contend within developing nations.

It should be noted that whilst chlorine kills nearly every organic contaminant, it does not kill every single one of them, and sometimes the bacteria survive, by virtue of a tough outer layer which acts very much like a suit of armour called a cyst.

Thankfully, such bacteria are extremely rare indeed and so the chances of them directly affecting you are extremely remote indeed.

Non-living contaminants (also sometimes known as inorganic) refers to the various drugs and chemicals which are present within the water supply. Some of these chemicals are there by design, for example, chlorine is deliberately added to water in order to help effectively kill off the various organic contaminants that are commonly found. Some others such as fluoride are added to help us with our teeth and bones.

However, (and somewhat worryingly) there are a high number of non-living contaminants that pose a major risk to health. You would be amazed at the sheer number of different prescription drugs that find their way into our precious water supplies and to make things even more disconcerting these prescription drugs will interact with the chlorine making both even more toxic and therefore dangerous.

Given the dangerous chemicals that are usually found within tap water, a filtration system of sorts is an extremely attractive option indeed. Make sure you choose carefully so that you get a decent degree of protection.

If you want to make sure you are getting the needed minerals, with a filtering system that is proven to work, then you can begin by visiting my website.
