What is Intelligence?

If you go to Google and type in "define:intelligence", you will get a number of definition of intelligence ranging from spying to a TV series and magazines names. However the definition that's relevant to this article is provided by Wikipedia and I reproduced it below.

"Intelligence is a property of mind that encompasses many related mental abilities, such as the capacities to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language, and learn. ..."

Hence intelligence is a mental process and most of the time we relate it to solving complex mathematical problems. In fact the ability to do that is but just one form of intelligence. There are at least 10 categories of intelligence and these are presented below.

1. Logical-Mathematical

It is the ability to understand shifting argument and to see and break down the relationship between variables of the argument using logical mathematical intelligence. People with this form of intelligence are good in arguments, solving mathematical problems and debating.

2. Spatial

Person with this intelligence can easily visualize images mentally. They are likely to be inclined towards artistic areas and good at it.

3. Linguistic

Besides having a good command of vocabulary, such intelligence has the ability to understand languages. A person possessing such intelligence is able to express things related to languages like vocabulary concisely and clearly.

4. Musical

As the name suggested, person with musical intelligence has the ability to decipher notes, rhythm and the tone of sound accurately. They are also good at learning through listening.

5. Social

A person with social intelligence has the ability to easily interact with people. They can understand people and their situation even without the other people talking about it. They are sensitive to minor signals that people make and they can judge the situation accurately from these signals.

6. Emotional

Such people have the ability to understand their own and other people's emotions. They can also decipher the reasons behind their emotions and can sympathize with others emotions.

7. Kinesthetical

This has to do with the ability to learn things through body movement and action. Person with this form of intelligence has good hand to eye coordination. Hence they learn things through action instead of through theory.

8. Perspectival

A person with perspectival intelligence will be able to see and understand others point of view even without it being mentioned. They can adapt and understand well the system of other person beliefs and get a perspective view of it.

9. Intuitional

This intelligence has to do with gut feeling. A person with this form of intelligence is able to tell if something is right or wrong all from the instinct that he or she has. They are also good in identifying good ideas from the maze of ideas.

10. Stationary

This intelligence is the ability to be impartial and not bias or influenced by emotional, beliefs, etc when looking at a problem. Thus the person is able to see the problem or something clearly as it is without attaching any "baggage" to it.
