The Art of Paper Flowers
By:Robert Grazian

Making paper flowers is a fun and interesting activity for your child. It can also be a relaxing time killer and you will soon find yourself engaging on the activity. With this basic instruction, you can make handmade decorations. Even the ones who don't think they are crafty enough for this project can easily do this. This only requires folding paper and spending a few dollars. Not only will you save money on the decors, you can be proud of your work and the sentimental value of your paper flower will definitely make you fell so much better.

You will need tissue papers that are multi-colored when making paper flowers, depending on the colors you prefer, and a pack of pipe cleaners for the stem. They come in the color green so you will not have to do anything with it. If you cannot find pipe cleaners in your area, you can use regular wires and just wrap it with green floral tape which can be bought at your local craft store. Make sure though that your wire is not so thick that you cannot bend it easily. You will also need scissors for this project. For those who are doing this project with their kids, remind them to be careful and not to cut themselves

To begin making paper flowers, take five sheets of the paper in different colors; make sure to lay them on top of one another and that their sides are aligned. Fold them in two to make it look like a rectangle. At the center of the rectangle, cut a small V-shape to make a diamond cut on the center when you unfold the tissue paper. Insert the pipe cleaner and twist it to form a notch to prevent the tissue papers from falling. Gently pull the tissue paper upward one at a time. Crumple the tissue paper to give it more texture and to make it look fluffier.

When you get the hang of making paper flowers, you can do this in a variation. You can make this with more tissue papers for a thicker effect. Make more paper flowers and bunch them together for a better effect. Practice makes perfect; it may seem tiring at first and it may not look so great the first time you try it, but with practice, you will find the task easier and faster. Soon you will be making paper flowers that look realistic and professionally done. Just keep on practicing and keep folding those tissue papers.
