Technology for ESL

How to Incorporate Technology Into Teaching
By:Collaborator

The world is becoming more dependent on technology everyday. Incorporating technology into a classroom helps prepare students for the future. Students respond better to technology than they do to photo copies. Even if you are not a computer whiz, technology can be incorporated into the classroom. Read on to learn how to incorporate technology into teaching.

Check the resources that come with the textbooks. Most current editions of textbooks include CD-ROMs and websites with lessons. The teacher's edition textbook includes a list of resources available to teachers.

Ask the computer lab director and other teachers for suggestions. Other teachers may be using programs or techniques in their classes. Some of the younger teachers know more than you think when it comes to teaching with technology. Use their experience to bring technology into your classroom.

Assign projects that require the use of technology. Some suggestions for different types of assignments are slide show presentations, spreadsheets or graphs.

Refresh your own skills. Take computer classes at libraries, community colleges or education agencies. Practice the programs you want the students use. Most programs have a tutorial incorporated in the program that teaches you how it works. Check the help menu in the program to get help and tips.
