7 Important Things You Must Remember When Traveling Alone
By:Benny Horowitz

Traveling alone can prove to be as exciting as traveling in a larger group. Still you need to keep in mind at least seven things that will help you enjoy this experience even further.

7 Important things you must remember when traveling alone:

1. Call in
For your own safety, leave your itinerary with someone at home and call-in or e-mail periodically to let them know where you are.

2. Get out of places you don't feel safe
Use your instinct and whenever you get to a place you do not like or you will not normally go to, just leave. Be polite, but depart as soon as possible.

3. Be one of the many
Try not to stand out from the crowd through what you do or what you wear. Look around and adopt as quickly as possible the local habits and rhythm. Talk to people around, but don't become too close or friendly.

4. Ask for help
Don't be embarrassed to admit you lost your way and just ask for help. Look for people that seem reliable and ask them which way to go.

5. Look after your general safety
Never leave your luggage unattended and find out - if possible- what places to avoid. Even though you feel and maybe are lost, brace yourself and try to look as confident as possible.

6. Look after yourself
There is no one else to look after you, so treat any signs of illness as soon as they occur. Use the medication you brought along or approach local medical aid.

7. You decide
Maybe the most important and most exciting thing to remember is that being on you own means total freedom to decide where to go and what to do. It is up to you to travel North or South as long as you feel and stay safe.
