M.Ed in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages [TESOL]

This program is designed for both native and nonnative speakers of English. The program aims to contribute to English language teacher development in Thailand and beyond. To achieve this, the program combines theoretical courses with teaching practice.

Admission
Native speakers of English
– A bachelor's degree in any field
– One year's teaching experience or a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Nonnative speakers of English
– A bachelor's degree in any field
– One year’s teaching experience or a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
– English proficiency at IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 560, or computer-based TOEFL 215

Study Format
– Full-time track: one year (three semesters – daytime classes)
– Part-time track: two years (six semesters – weekend classes)

Study Schedule
Semester 1 (15 weeks): late August – mid-December
Semester 2 (15 weeks): early January – mid-April
Semester 3 (12 weeks): early May – late July

Course of Study and Graduation Requirements
Graduation requires 42 credits. Each course carries 3 credits.

– Option A: Master’s Thesis (12 credits)
– Option B: Independent Study Project (6 credits) plus two additional courses
(3 credits each)

Credit Transfers
Credit may be granted for earlier relevant coursework, documented through detailed syllabus, course paper, or other relevant evidence.

Campus Location
Secluded rural setting, two hours from Bangkok, 90 minutes from Suvarnabhumi airport, and 30 minutes from the beach resort of Pattaya.

Scholarships
To mark Asian University's 10th Anniversary, a 99,000 baht scholarship will be granted to all MEd TESOL students for the 2008-09 academic year, resulting in total tuition costs of 300,000 baht for full-time students, pro-rated for part-time students during 2008-09
