Teacher Training Schools

USA - New York - New York City
By:Teaching House New York -- CELTA, DELTA, TKT and More <info@teachinghouse.com>

There is more than one TESOL certification course offered within the city limits of New York, each of which offers a general teaching certificate to students; but there is only one University of Cambridge-accredited CELTA New York.

Teaching House's CELTA training course is offered in beautiful Chelsea in midtown Manhattan, with all the facilities you'll require during your training as a CELTA teacher.

Since 2006, Teaching House’s team of trainers has grown from one full-time trainer and one freelance trainer to 10 full-time trainers – including 4 CELTA assessors - and a dedicated group of regular freelance trainers from around the world. This is one of the largest and strongest groups of CELTA trainers assembled, and they work hard to develop the CELTA brand. Teaching House runs around 30 courses a year in three formats: full-time (4 weeks), part-time (10 weeks) and semi-intensive (6 weeks).

Teaching House has developed a very strong CELTA course and produced virtually every conceivable document, assignment, input session handout and teaching practice point that we could think of. However, the program can be adapted to your everyday life. Indeed, IH New York offers three different schedules for the CELTA course. Each course follows exactly the same syllabus and leads to exactly the same certification from the University of Cambridge. The choice of which one to attend depends on each candidate’s own needs and availability. We hope that at least one of these options works for you.

Intensive Course (4 weeks)
The 4-week course is very intensive and requires full-time commitment. In addition to class time, you can expect to spend a part of most evenings and at least one day over the weekend working independently on lesson planning and course assignments. Cambridge ESOL recommends dedicating a minimum of 20-25 hours a week outside of the course to this work. 100% attendance is required. Employment during the course and very long commutes are strongly discouraged. A clear schedule for four weeks is the best approach to take.

Extensive Part-Time Course (10 weeks)
The Part-Time Course is equal in nature to the Full-Time Course but is spread out over a longer period of time. It is designed for people who have other full-time commitments (work, study, etc.). Candidates need to commit to attending the course for the complete period and doing course work at weekends and/or on alternative days of the week when they are not studying on the course.

Semi-Intensive Course (7 weeks)
To suit candidates who would like a slower pace of course than the 4-week intensive or candidates who have other part-time commitments, Teaching House New York offers the 7 week Semi-Intensive Course. This course is also ideal for university students or people with part-time jobs wishing to transition to teaching.
