Volunteering Abroad

The Esperanza Project
Geographical Area:Cabrera, Dominican Republic <info@esperanzaproject.ca>

The Esperanza Project is based in the quiet, picturesque town of Cabrera on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It is a non-Profit organization founded and run by two highly energetic and highly qualified young educators, who are focused on providing a high quality, project-based educational program, as well as a completely free summer camp for local youth to participate in extra-curricular activities throughout the summer months.

The Esperanza Project is recruiting volunteers for their upcoming summer camp, located in the beautiful, coastal town of Cabrera, Dominican Republic. It is a completely free of charge day camp for the local children, aged 4 to 15, to partake in sports, arts & crafts, music, drama and other extracurricular activities throughout the summer months.

A typical day for volunteers will involve working at the camp from 8:45 am until 1:00 pm (Monday to Friday). The camp will be made up of six different activity centers (eg: arts & crafts, sports, drama, etc.) where two volunteer will be assigned to a center and a group of 10 to 20 campers. Counselors will be responsible for creating, organizing and leading activities within their center, as well as short songs, games, and activities for the daily 'morning circle'. Afternoons and weekends are free for volunteers to do as they please. There are several breathtaking beaches within 10-20 minutes of the town, as well as waterfalls, natural pools and caves.
