The first College Board approved Advanced Placement (AP) Program was launched in Yichang, the second largest city of Hubei province this year. Its first batch of students are recruited for this three-year full time academic program in Yiling High School, one of the most academically competitive high schools in Hubei. This small program (with 25 students) is designed to foster academic curiosity and inter-cultural communications, as well as preparing students for college abroad through rigorous curriculum that focuses on language readiness and critical thinking. Yichang is the second city of China’s central Hubei province, around half the size of New York City and twice the size of Chicago. Both the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges Dam can be found in Yichang; the former is the longest river in Asia and third longest in the world, and the latter is the world’s largest power generator and a well-known symbol of the region.
