English schools in the USA and Canada

Ohio - Columbus
School:Ohio State University - ESL Programs

1- American Language Program:
Established in 1983 as a division within the Department of English at The Ohio State University, the American Language Program has provided English-as-a-second-language instruction to thousands of students from around the world, representing more than 125 countries.
Currently, ALP offers three types of programming:

Intensive English – full-time courses which meet 20-23 hours per week, for those who wish to make fast progress and who are able to devote themselves to an intensive schedule. Admission to the Intensive English program includes the form I-20 for a student visa, if needed.

Non-credit classes – late afternoon and evening classes on a variety of English language topics for members of the central Ohio community.

Classes for the OSU student – supplemental support classes for students in undergraduate and graduate programs at Ohio State who desire additional English language instruction along side their academic coursework.

In addition, special programming can be created for special needs.

2- The ESL Composition Program (ESLC):
The ESL Composition Program (ESLC) is one of the largest post-admission English as a Second Language programs in the United States, with a broad spectrum of courses for both graduate and undergraduate students. The goal of the program is to bring students' writing skills to a level at which they can perform successfully as writers in university courses.

3- Spoken English Program:
The goal of the Spoken English Program is to ensure that international teaching assistants demonstrate the communication skills necessary to teach effectively in the U.S. university setting. Specifically, the program screens all prospective ITAs, provides coursework for those who require it, and administers teaching performance tests at the end of coursework to determine Certification to teach.
