How to Be an Excellent Teacher

It is not easy to walk on the road that leads you to your destiny of becoming an excellent teacher. This road is neither straight nor clear. It is full of hazardous turns and piercing stones that block your way. In other words you need to strive hard to include yourself in the list of outstanding teachers.

Teaching is a noble profession. History is replete with examples of people who turned out to be marvelous teachers, e.g., Socrates, a great teacher and philosopher, who produced students like Aristotle. Aristotle too was an excellent teacher and philosopher. He had students like Alexander the great, who turned out to be a profound warrior. This shows how important it is to be an extolling teacher.

An excellent teacher is a role model for the students. She assumes several roles to pave her way towards success. An excellent teacher must be an instructional leader. She should have complete knowledge and command of the curriculum and syllabi that she has to teach. She must plan her lessons accurately. It should combine all those contents, activities, material etc, that are required to plan an ideal lesson. She must be aware of the modern teaching methodologies and techniques to make her teaching more effective.

Another aspect of becoming an excellent teacher is to be a guide for her students.she provides them counseling and guidance in all affairs. She understands their psyche and resolves their problems in a befitting manner. She holds sessions with to share their problems and find out their best solutions. She holds discussions on their career counseling and tries to broaden their vision in terms of the field they should choose for them as a profession. She builds up their confidence by even discussing their personal issues and problems. Students seek their advice in crisis and ask them for appropriate solutions.

An excellent teacher works like a good manager and administrator. She manages her classroom activities properly. She maintains discipline in her class. Helps the students in maintenance of their note books. She manages class rules and makes the students follow them. She monitors all the activities and nicely decorates her class. She prepares her students for assembly presentations and develops confidence in them. She manages the participation of her students in all competitions and creates a sense of competition among them.

One of the attributes of an excellent teacher is to play the role of a mentor. She helps students to improve their effectiveness in a certain field, shows them how to become expert in a profession and teaches them how to develop their skills. The support of the teacher as a mentor helps students to reach new horizons.

An excellent teacher is a nation builder. She prepares her students for the future perspectives. They are trained to achieve success in all walks of life. She works for their personality grooming. She also builds up their character. She communicates frequently with the parents of her students and keeps them informed of their class performance. She tries to keep the parents involved in all decisions related to their child's progress.

Last, but not the least, an excellent teacher is an excellent trainer as well. She trains her students effectively to follow the rules of the school. She ensures the participation of all students in class activities. Her students are trained to carry out proper drills in school. A teacher desirous of achieving the status of an excellent teacher must incorporate all the above mentioned attributes in her personality. Only then she can be rightly called an extolling and excellent teacher.
