Study Skills: Why You Need A Study Skills Lesson Plan
By:Nivin Thanabalan

There are undoubtedly a huge number of important skills that students of all ages learn whilst at school. In fact it would seem almost impossible to pick out any one skill as the most important. However, without question learning some definite study skills will very possibly continue to serve everyone throughout their lives. Therefore, devising thorough and effective study skills lesson plans is a crucial part of teaching at all grades and levels.

Students of all abilities have every chance of enjoying successful academic careers providing they learn how to use study skills correctly right from the outset. Whether they continue onto college or university or simply decide to enter a profession straight from school learning these skills will be good preparation.

The crucial point is to try and devise the programs so that the pupils will get the most benefit as possible from them. Making it fun and interesting is, naturally, a good place to start. Making sure the lessons retain their level of fun and interest would probably be the next step. The activities that may be included in each program are naturally going to differ depending on which age group one is aiming at.

Nevertheless, although they should indeed be fun, ensuring that the students grasp exactly why and how developing these kinds of skills will prove to be so important for them must be made intrinsically clear. Above all the students should be lead to understand that developing these skills correctly now will make everything in their future studies a touch more straightforward.

Care should also be made with regards to developing programs that will suit or can be adapted to a whole range of abilities. Each individual student not only has a very different level of ability, this is natural, but each individual also tends to react differently to different learning styles.

The unfortunate reality is that some students who perhaps take longer to grasp certain things academically are often unfairly regarded as being stupid. How untrue this generally turns out to be, is usually highlighted when such students are offered different techniques to help them grasp things easier. These techniques can include introducing, for example, a greater emphasis on visual learning techniques. Equally effective can be the introduction of class interaction within the lessons.

It only remains to say that before preparing to attempt any creation of study skills lesson plans, suitable research should be made. This will not only reiterate just how important these skills are but should also provide more ways of setting about this task.
