Do You Feel Less in Control of Your Classroom & That You Spend Less Time Teaching Than Ever Before?
By:Al Jackson

Teaching is not like it used to be. You used to be able to teach your classroom of pupils about the topic of the day, and they would listen to every word you uttered. Does that happen these days? Not in many classrooms that's for sure. The old methods of controlling a classroom full of children do not always work, and although many teachers realize this, they do not have the time to search out alternative methods. This article can help.

Ok, so old techniques don't work as well these days. What were the old techniques, then? Fear played a big part of classroom control in days gone by, fear that a ruler would come crashing down on your knuckles if you spoke when the teacher was talking, or else you'd get a quick wallop on the backside if you were wandering round the classroom when you were supposed to be sat in your seat.

I think you'll agree that fear does not exist in many classes, but neither does respect. Students have become very good at finding out what they can get away with at school, and then they will continually push this limit. It can make a teacher's job extremely difficult. Instead of teaching a topic, teachers spend their time policing the class, getting them quiet enough so they can all hear your words of wisdom, getting them to sit down, and getting cell phones turned off in some cases.

So, what can teachers do? Teachers need to implement a form of discipline that suits them, and gives them the respect of the students. If a teacher sends all the problem children to the headmaster's office, then the students will have no respect for that teacher because they are not dealing with the problem themselves. A technique has to be used that the students themselves understand and respect. It has to mean something to the student. The discipline has to deal with the behaviour issues immediately so that the class is disrupted as little as possible, and with a minimum of paperwork and follow up. And of course, any punishment cannot involve physical abuse. Teachers may not hit or even touch their students.

In conclusion, the type of discipline that a teacher uses will depend, obviously on the age of their students, but it is vital that every teacher learns to control and gain the respect of their classroom effectively, at the beginning of the school year. Otherwise too much time will be lost disciplining the class instead of teaching.

For a classroom management and control system that will quickly eliminate behaviour problems in your classroom, take a look here at Classroom Discipline! http://www.usfreeads.com/1440256-cls.html This will help you get on with your job of teaching your students, not disciplining. You will soon have classroom control back again, and you may be able to help other teachers too. The author Al Jackson was herself a teacher, so knows only too well the stress and frustrations of classroom control for teachers.
