A confident teacher is not always a confident person. It sounds very strange but yet it's a fact that confidence comes from knowledge, not bluff and bluster. So which ever profession you belong, you should have full command over it. For example, if you are a doctor then reading medical books is not enough to be confident, you need a lot of practice. Likewise if you are teacher then you should have a good grip over the subject which you are teaching.

First thing is knowledge; if you are a teacher then you should be totally updated about the most current knowledge in your field. It will build your students confidence in you with reference to your knowledge.

The second thing, which is very important, is your personality. Organize yourself very well. If you will show discipline to your staff and your students then they will be more respectful towards you. This will also build up your self confidence.

Third thing which is important in becoming a confident teacher is that you should be well prepared for lectures. Plan the lectures first and then practice it several times and find out what kind of questions may arise and then prepare the answers. Deliver the lecture and then anticipate the discussion on the topic. This will give you additional confidence and students would also be comfortable with you. Never ignore any asked question, if you do not know the answer then tell the student something like 'you raised a very good question and I will confirm the answer first then I will let you know in our very next lecture.'

When you have belief in yourself then it would be very easy for you to build confidence. Many teachers do favoritism which is against the rules of teaching but still they do it. They can never be confident because deep inside they know that they are dishonest with their profession. If you have self confidence, then your students will also have faith in their abilities and they will show more interest in your subject. This will definitely build up your confidence.
